Posted on: September 7, 2011

A common debate in the fitness world is the debate surrounding the effectiveness of an elliptical exercise machine versus treadmill exercise machines. Of the two, the treadmill was introduced first. The treadmill gives you the option to work or run during your workout. Soon after, the elliptical exercise machine was introduced. In addition to allowing several levels of manual pacing while working out, the elliptical trainer provided a full body workout.

When determining the ideal piece of exercise equipment for you, it is imperative to consider the type of workout you desire and other options. Once you are ready to purchase a piece of exercise equipment, it is important to consider your options. The ideal piece of exercise equipment would provide an effective yet low impact workout. The exercise equipment should allow for some form of enjoyment in your workout. The elliptical trainer meets and exceeds all of these standards.

Another fact to consider is the design of the equipment versus the available storage space. When we purchase homes, we usually live in those homes for several years or until we out grow them. When selecting an elliptical trainer or treadmill you would need to consider the amount of storage space available. The elliptical and the treadmill are very similar in size and stature, but treadmills are often a smidge larger. While there are portable treadmills that are capable of folding to provide for better storage, these models are usually not as sturdy and reliable as a larger models. Elliptical trainers tend to come in a more compact form that fit perfectly in a small nook or corner of a master bedroom or office.

An elliptical workout machine also accounts for fewer inquiries while working out. The design of the elliptical trainer requires your foot to remain on the pedal throughout your entire workout. This plays a major role in decreasing the average number of injuries incurred during an elliptical workout. Some common injuries associated with treadmills are foot pain, shin splits and weakened knees.

While there are several advantages to purchasing a treadmill exercise machine, the elliptical exercise machine reigns as supreme over the two. The elliptical trainer provides an effective, safe workout in a minimal amount of time. The elliptical exercise machine is also easier to store in your home. Perhaps a treadmill can be used in conjunction with an elliptical trainer, but in the end, the elliptical trainer is the best option.
